BJ Appelgren, educated originally as a sculptor and art educator at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, became intrigued by the psychology of creativity. In exploring individual perception and the creative process, she discovered the importance of the relationship between human health and creativity. It is her delight to guide others in experiencing improved health.

Ms. Appelgren is a core founder of the Shenandoah Alliance for the Healing Arts -- a practitioners’ networking organization -- and is a member of the Healing Arts Council which sponsors educational seminars in complementary medicine in the Winchester, VA area.

Former editor of Healing Arts Report, a newsletter about the new health paradigm, she is currently a writer, psychotherapist (licensed social worker in West Virginia, certified hypnotherapist), and educator on complementary health care. She also publishes the Healing Arts Directory: a Guide to Preventive, Integrative, Complementary, Traditional, and Alternative Health Care in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Further studies include:
Chicago Counseling and Psychotherapy Center
International Academy for Continuous Education in England
Loyola University - Chicago, MSW
Continuing education with gifted mentors in visualization, meditation, shamanic technique, Gestalt, and related topics.

For eight years, she served as executive director of LARC, an advocacy agency in Leesburg, VA, for people with handicapping conditions.
